Pregabalin

What is Pregabalin?

Pregabalin is a drug that is commonly used to treat nerve pain. It is also known as the brand name ‘Lidoca’ or ‘Lyrica’, which are the brands with which it is registered for medical use. Pregabalin and Lidocain are both the same drug in different combinations and from different manufacturers.

Both of these drugs are pregabalin derivatives, and they have several similarities as well as differences.

Pregabalin is an anticonvulsant medication that belongs to the group of drugs called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptor antagonists. This drug is effective in relieving pain caused by various conditions such as fibromyalgia, spinal cord injury, acute nerve pain, and central neuropathic pain.

Different kinds of pregabalin formulations can be available depending on the condition being treated. In most cases, the dosage prescribed is somewhere between 150mg and 300mg three times a day before meals.

How does Pregabalin work?

Pregabalin regulates the way nerves transmit data to the brain, preventing brain confusion when nerves malfunction or are compressed. Nerves transmit false data to the brain when they are damaged or malfunction in some way, fooling the brain into believing that a certain part of the body is in pain.

By modifying the function of nerves, pregabalin may help reduce your pain.

This medication is widely used to treat epilepsy conditions too, the main purpose is to calm the nerves. SleepiWish has stocked 2 different strengths of Pregabalin for many years, both of which are popular, always check with us or your healthcare professional on the correct dosage to take.

Is Pregabalin / Lyrica safe to use long-term and how long does it take to work?

Some of our customers have noticed a decrease in pain and anxiety as early as the first week of use, but the general rule is that you should wait from a period of 5 weeks to 13 weeks, the difference being dosage amounts and strength in medication.

Your doctor may prescribe Pregabalin to be taken daily for long-term management of pain or seizures.

Many patients find that Lyrica provides long-term pain control. If you discontinue taking Lyrica without your doctor’s approval, you should expect to be weaned off it slowly, usually over one week.

If you stop using in a short period this can lead to headaches, diarrhoea, nausea, anxiety, sleep problems, and increased sweating, among other adverse effects. If you’re taking Lyrica for epilepsy and you withdraw your medication, your seizures will be more frequent.

How long does Pregabalin / Lyrica stay in your system?

Depending on the mg of this medication that you have taken, it can stay in your blood for approximately 30-35 hours and has an average of 5 to 6 hours of detectability in your urine.

During your dose, the half-life of Pregabalin is about 6 hours.

Conclusion

The benefits of Pregabalin far outweigh the small risk of side effects, it is a commonly known drug that can dramatically improve your well-being by offering the relief of pain, anxiety and those that are mentioned above. The team here at SleepiWish only have the customer’s best health in mind, we would never advise nor suggest purchasing medication that is not needed.
